Class of '54 Celebrates 50th

September 25, 2004

Our Big 50th has come and gone. It was held September 25,2004. The weekend was kicked off by a gathering of approximately 25 at the Brown Jug on Friday evening. On Saturday, Ron Gabiel and Kay Conklin met with Brent Carson, Delaware Historian who led us on a tour of our Alma Mater, Willis High. We then met at the "Mean Bean" for conversation and lattes. Some took excursions through our town which has changed a lot. It is filled with antique shops, small eateries and miscellaneous gift shops. Long gone are Baueries, Merits, Blackburn Clothing Store, Wilsons, Peoples Store, Uhlmans, Boston Store, Holly Shop, Lords, Dunkins, Isalys, Deerlick Dairy and Kleins. The town was really booming back then.

Our evening together started with cocktail hour, with the usual relish tray, nuts, mints punch or cocktails. At 6:45 our class picture was taken by photographer Rex Welker with 48 of our classmates in attendance. This is one of the largest turn-outs we have had!

We then sat down for a dinner of chicken or steak, wine was served with our meal. Lois Dewalt Maxwell led the invocation. Herman Maschman did a super job serving as our Master of Ceremonies. Herman introduced Bill Williams, Class President, who gave the welcome address. Charlene Welch Zinn did the memorial of the ones that had passed. We now have 25 deceased classmates.

Ron Gabiel then did "Down Memory Lane" with attendees taking part in "do you remember".

Jackie Holly gave report of and thanked her committee , Kay Conklin, Ron Gabiel,Maryln Williams,Bill Williams, Don Byerly, Nancy Hoar and Pat Poling.

An address list with e-mail and street addresses were given to all present.

The meeting adjourned. Drinks and conversation followed. Everyone enjoyed their time together and suggested we do this again before our 55th.

Thanks to Pat Poling for the picture and write-up.  Sounds and looks like they had a great time!
