What ever became of the class of  1958?

Hal H. Wyss received his B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Ohio State.  He is an English professor at Albion College, Albion, Michigan.  A former Fellow of the Newberry Library in Chicago, working on Melville, he has written and lectured on Melville, Lardner, and other writers.

He is a former Associate Provost and Acting Provost at Albion. Courses: Hemingway and Fitzgerald, Twain and Faulkner, American Literature I and II, Stereotypes in American Literature, Science Fiction, Writing Essentials, Composition, The English Language.  (1990-91 Teacher of the Year)

He married Melissa Blair, Willis Class of '61.  They have two daughters.

David Corwin is currently a Nationwide Insurance agent in Delaware.


After graduation, Alan Hackel went to Western Reserve University in Cleveland and completed his BA and MA in English Literature. Then on to Ohio State to complete a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in adult education, higher education and educational administration. While in Cleveland he met and married Joan Lieder. They have two daughters: Margo who lives in Connecticut with her husband, Frank, and Julie, who lives in Peoria, AZ.  While in his MA program at Western Reserve, Alan worked at Cleveland College as an advisor and program planner. While at Ohio State, he worked with the university's division of continuing education in a variety of positions including acting assistant VP for continuing education. From Ohio the family moved to Omaha, NE where Alan was dean of the college of continuing education for 15 years. Alan and Joan now live in Wetupmka, AL and Alan is the dean of the School of Continuing Education at Auburn University Montgomery where he has been for the last 10 years.
